Distribution : Caribbean coasts, from Florida to Brazil

Biology : The Atlantic spadefish frequents a wide variety of shallow-water biotopes, particularly sandy bottoms and mangroves. It spends most of its time searching the bottom for food. Opportunistic, it feeds on invertebrates, algae and detritus. It can be observed in small groups and sometimes in very large shoals.
