Biology : A discreet fish, the spotted drum frequents overhangs and cavities. As adults, they have numerous stripes and spots. Younger individuals are distinguished by their large sickle-shaped dorsal fin. Juveniles often stay close to sea urchins and moray eels, which serve as their protectors.
