Educational discovery of the marine world
The educational service of the Aquarium de Biarritz aims to help younger generations learn, understand, and rethink their future relationship with the ocean—from knowledge of its environment to the use of its resources.
Educational activities
The Aquarium de Biarritz designs educational activities adapted to the specificities and school levels of each grade, according to the French Ministry of Education programs (Éduscol). They cover a variety of themes:
- Basics of biodiversity (Cycle 2 – Grades 1 to 3): discovery of ecosystems and species classification.
- Food chain and nutrition (Cycle 2 & 3 – Grades 3 to 4): interactions between living beings and feeding habits.
- Ocean degradation and protection (Cycle 2 to 4 – Grades 2 to 9): impact of human activities and eco-gestures.
- Marine species respiration (Cycle 3 & 4 – Grades 4 to 9): comparison of respiration modes.
- Species reproduction (Cycle 3 & 4 – Grades 6 to 9): reproductive strategies and adaptations.
- Species classification and evolution (Cycle 4 – Grades 9 to 9): notions of phylogeny and evolution.
- Rocky shore discovery (Cycle 2 & 3 – Grades 2 to 5): coastal exploration and observation of organisms at low tide.
