New Exhibition: Neptune’s Act

Neptune’s Act: A new immersive exhibition by Good Bye Hippocrate

Starting July 3, 2026, the Aquarium de Biarritz will host a brand-new art installation: Neptune’s Act. This hybrid work by artist Good Bye Hippocrate blends illustrations and video animations in an immersive projection.

This exhibition invites visitors to journey through the imaginations of the ocean—from ancient myths to contemporary visions shaped by science—offering a fresh perspective on the tales surrounding the marine world.

This journey is composed of four distinct universes:

The Winds, the Stars, and the Sea: Guided by Neptune riding a seahorse, this space explores the profound and timeless bond between Biarritz and the ocean. Hot-air-balloon jellyfish rub shoulders with iconic figures from maritime and Aquarium history.

The Engine Room: Pays tribute to the explorers, engineers, and scientists of the 19th century. Set in a Jules Verne-inspired décor, the animated illustrations celebrate human curiosity as the driving force behind all discoveries.

The Deep End: Shifts into the realm of dreams. Improbable creatures, a kleptomaniac octopus, a Virgin Mary on her giant clam shell, and shifting landscapes: familiar landmarks fade away to make room for wonder.

Neptune’s Cabaret: Closes the show with humor and elegance. The Aquarium’s residents become the heroes of a grand underwater revue: a seahorse cabaret artist, acrobatic shrimp and hermit crabs, and clownfish setting the dance floor ablaze with a French cancan.

Three years ago, when the Basque artist and emergency physician Good Bye Hippocrate presented his illustrations to Marion Etcheverry, the Aquarium’s director, it was an immediate artistic crush. That meeting gave rise to the Ocean [bluz] exhibition, which celebrated the Aquarium de Biarritz’s 90th anniversary.

Building on the success of that colorful and meticulous universe, the adventure continues today with Neptune’s Act. Here, the artist pushes the boundaries of his marine imagination by combining, for the very first time, his illustrations with video animation and immersive projection.

An unprecedented visual experience: powerful, funny, and resolutely poetic!
